ANTARCTIC | WE GOT THERE

Our cruise to Antarctica was a truly incredible experience aboard Celebrity Infinity. Everything about our cruise and the destinations was wonderful. The service and crew were excellent. We felt so happy to have seen the things we saw. With only around 0.01% of the world's population having visited Antarctica, we felt very special. We saw so many penguins, whales, seals and sea lions that it was totally worth it.

We started planning almost two years ago. After that time, it was hard to believe that the time had come! Approximately a week before leaving we were notified of engine problems that would require some slowdown in sailing speed and we would miss Puerto Madryn. This was disappointing as we had flights to Africa from this city, but this port was not the reason we booked this cruise.

Before you travel: you didn't forget about travel insurance, right?

We flew with miles with Gol to Buenos Aires and from there we went with Aerolineas to Ushuaia. The Infinity is not a new ship, but she is in good shape. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and were quick to learn names and preferences. We secured a cabin with a balcony, which allowed us to see Antarctica much better, we woke up to icy mountains and wildlife from our window. The food was very good, we didn't have anything that disappointed.

We had 2 days at sea to start but enjoyed the time on the frozen continent. Ranger John and Dr. Peter had interesting topics spoken over the ship's speakers, but Mickeylive was definitely the highlight! His lectures were always consistent and very pleasant. We got on the ship at about 11pm and all was on board by 1130 and we were on our way to Antarctica - but first Cape Horn and the Drake!

The weather at Cape Horn was absolutely incredible - blue skies and smooth waters and the captain was able to do some 360s so all sides of the ship had excellent views. The helipad was open for those who wanted that experience. Drake had a tremor, but not terrible. We had rain and fog and the waves were estimated at around 5 meters, Lídia prepared with medicine was calm, I was sick for a whole day.

We arrived in Antarctica with fog and clouds but this disappeared quickly and there was even a big rainbow. Icebergs of many shapes, penguins, sea birds, whales were there to welcome us. Antarctica is incredible and exceeded all our hopes and expectations, we were very pleased with our time there. We had clear weather during our Paradise Bay stop and again the Captain was able to do a slow 360 to give all the incredible views. We were out on our balcony most of the time but also walked down the pavement several times. Elephant Island was the next day and again, beautiful weather and views. It's hard to imagine how Ernest Shakleton and his team survived in that inhospitable setting.

Soon after leaving Elephant Island we were again in fog and some rain and again the dreaded Drake Passage. The cold is -3, but the black rocky mountains full of snow are a scene that not even Iceland gave us as a gift. In total there are 83 scientific bases on this continent, and the main motto here is cooperation-science-peace in a space shared by nations that are even said to be enemies out there. With Antarctica we know the 6 corners of this planet, we start with America, then Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and finally Antarctica! We remember it as if it were yesterday when we started drawing the Malay Traveler and we never thought we would go so far, so hot and so cold!

Do you dream of coming there? Plan a lot, have the courage to go through the Drake Passage, buy the right clothes, have binoculars and a cool photo team to guarantee the moments and save some money to pay 💰 the ticket and enjoy the least visited and coldest continent on this planet !
